Sweltering temperatures scorched the Bay Area on Saturday as highs headed toward the triple digits in some cities, prompting warnings to take refuge from the dangerous heat, and beeline for sprinklers, pools and beaches offering a cool, watery respite.On Saturday, the hottest temperatures were forecast for inland parts of the East Bay, North Bay and southern Santa Clara Valley. Highs were expected to hit 107 in Antioch, 105 in Livermore, 101 in Hollister, 96 in Santa Rosa and 92 in San Jose.By around 2:30 p.m., temperatures had climbed into the 100s across the inland East Bay and spiked to 105 degrees around Lake Berreyssa in Napa County. The Rabbit Fire, by far the largest California wildfire of this season, has prompted evacuation orders in a largely rural area of Riverside County.The fire, which started Friday afternoon, had by Saturday morning reached 4,500 acres, or 7 square miles, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.Previously, the state’s largest wildfire of the year was the lightning-caused Bone Fire, which burned 1,163 acres in Tuolumne County.Also on Friday afternoon, two other wildfires — Reche and Highland — ignited in Riverside County. Their spread was controlled that evening.As of Saturday morning, the Rabbit Fire was 5% contained, Cal Fire said.Riverside County’s emergency services page said on Saturday afternoon that an evacuation order was in place for a sparsely populated 18-square-mile area between Beaumont and Lakeview. (KRON) -- A person was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person with a machete before setting a homeless encampment on fire Friday, according to the City of San Rafael. Monica De Leon Barba of San Mateo found after being kidnapped in Mexico, FBI says Police say around 6:16 a.m., the SRPD received several calls about a fire near the Mahon Creek path on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue. Fire crews and police officers arrived at the scene to find a tent fully engulfed in flames before they put the blaze out. Police investigating the incident found that the suspect and victim knew each other and had argued over a cell phone. (AP) — Third baseman José Miranda was put on the 10-day injured list by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday because of a right shoulder impingement, and top prospect Matt Wallner was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul.Miranda is hitting .211 with four doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs.
