(CNN) — Fire threats and environmental concerns have prompted some US cities to forego traditional Fourth of July fireworks in favor of spectacular drone light shows this year.Salt Lake City, Utah, tried out the alternative way of celebrating Independence Day on Saturday with its first-ever drone show. The city’s mayor, Erin Mendenhall, said in a news release the new format marked an effort to minimize the area’s “high fire danger” and to lessen air quality problems caused by pyrotechnics.“As temperatures rise and fire danger increases, we must be conscientious of both our air quality and the potential for wildfires,” Mendenhall said in the release.Utah has an average of 800 to 1,000 wildfires each year, and the state is among the most wildfire-prone in the US, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. In neighboring Colorado, also in its wildfire season, the City of Boulder made a similar decision this year with its first-ever nighttime drone show ne...Timing out holiday weekend rain and storms

7Weather – It’s been a soggy and cloudy start to our Sunday! Not ideal for our 4th of July weekend plans. Here’s what we can expect for the rest of the extended weekend. There will be periods of rain with some dry time mixed in today. Expect off and on waves of showers today. An isolated storm is possible this afternoon. We’ll have a lot of cloud cover around, so temperatures for most of us will stay in the 70s.Overnight, another batch of rain comes through. We’ll have showers for the Cape early tomorrow morning. A rumble of thunder is possible with this as well. Dew points will come up, so temperatures should stay in the upper 60s/near 70 overnight. That will be a good launching pad to get us into the low/mid 80s tomorrow. We’ll wake up to a lot of cloud cover. The July sunshine will help to clear it by midday. Tomorrow we’ll watch for scattered storms to develop mainly north and west of the city. The Storm Prediction Center highlights the...11 arrested at DUI checkpoint in Pacific Beach

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Guatemala’s highest court has suspended the release of official election results, granting a temporary injunction to 10 parties that challenged the results of the June 25 vote. The Constitutional Court late Saturday called for a new hearing to review the contested tallies in no more than five days.Sandra Torres and Bernardo Arévalo had emerged from a field of nearly two dozen presidential hopefuls in the first round of voting. Since neither came close the 50% threshold, they were expected to compete in an Aug. 20 runoff to determine Guatemala’s next president.Arévalo in particular from the progressive Seed Movement party was a surprise, as he had not been polling among the leading candidates. Torres, the candidate for the conservative UNE party, is making her third bid for the presidency.Essentially, the court wants to compare the tallies that were put into the electoral system with the ones from the polling places themselves to make sure they match. WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Listen to Novak Djokovic’s opponents explain why he is as successful as he is — why he will begin his pursuit of a fifth consecutive and eighth overall Wimbledon championship on Monday; why he also will be attempting to claim an Open era-record 24th Grand Slam trophy over the coming fortnight on the All England Club’s grass courts — and they’ll offer plenty of answers. His best-in-the-game return of serve. His dangerous two-handed backhand. His elasticity. His stamina. His defense.
