MLB trade deadline: With Fujinami gone, who else could A’s move?

Major League Baseball’s trade deadline looms a week from Tuesday, and the A’s have already offloaded their biggest-name free agent from last winter, sending former top Japanese prospect Shintaro Fujinami to Baltimore in exchange for relief prospect Easton Lucas. The A’s, at 28-74, are 28 games out of the AL’s final wild-card spot and appear poised to continue stripping down their roster over the next several days.Fujinami, 29, struggled mightily to begin his first season stateside after signing a one-year, $3.25 million contract, allowing 24 runs and 19 walks in 15 innings over his first four starts before moving into the bullpen. In a relief role, Fujinami narrowed his focus and showed the dominance that made him a three-time All-Star in Japan. In June and July with the A’s, he allowed seven runs over 19 1/3 innings in 17 outings, striking out 20 batters and walking only six.Fujinami came to the A’s boasting an array of pitches but with a baseball...Terrifying San Francisco car crash caught on video; what happened to the occupants?

I’ve gotten way out of the habit of sharing anything too deeply personal on the internet. But so many people — global leaders, U.S. presidents past and present, artists, fans and peers — have been posting amazing tributes, heartfelt stories, accolades and superlatives about the singular national treasure that was Tony Bennett.I really felt like I needed to try push myself to share a bit more. Tony Bennett was such an extraordinary man, if anyone is worth it, he is.When I met my beloved friend Antonia at Berklee College of Music in Boston, for some reason it never occurred to me that I’d ever meet her legendary father, let alone spend any real time around him. (Think about it: how often do you meet your friends’ parents?) For two people from sides of the tracks that couldn’t be more “opposite,” Antonia and I were instantly thick as thieves, and I never really thought much about her father, although I knew who he was.The first time I met Tony (whom I call “Mr. B” as my way to strike a...Nucor: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

Criminals are targeting valet stands in the nation’s capital, and that has the city urging those who park cars to rethink how they do business.Since last Thursday, at least two restaurants have seen thieves run up to valet stands and steal the keys of several vehicles. In their aftermath, Pamela Smith, acting D.C. police chief, said her officers have been educating businesses on best practices when it comes to handling keys.“Our community engagement officers have been going out to the businesses … where our valets are located to ensure that they look for a different place or measure in order to put those keys, so they’re not readily accessible to someone to actually walk up and grab it, and then take it,” Smith said. The most recent theft happened on Saturday night at the valet stand at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse on I Street, where a person came up and grabbed keys that were sitting on the table and ran off.
