Kittens are in cages with dirty litter, unchanged water, old food and poop on their fur. Once we fostered a pair of kittens that were five days overdue on their needed medicine. We fostered them for a month and found them a nice home. We recently fostered a kitten and saved its life. When we picked it up, we were told it was eating on its own. We brought it home and it refused to eat. We fed it through a syringe for a week. It would have died at SJACC.The care at the SJACC is poor. The city needs to hire professional management, more veterinarians and veterinary technicians. We will continue to foster to help kittens.Audrey SitterSan JoseEnfor...San Leandro police confirm two homicides, days apart, in fitness center parking lot

(KRON) -- The 49ers defense has performed like one of the best units in the league through three games, and one of the main reasons why is Javon Hargrave. Coming over from the defending NFC champion Eagles, Hargrave was the 49ers' big-ticket free agency pickup in the offseason. He has seven tackles and two sacks, helping the Niners start 3-0. The 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, who are coached by Jonathan Gannon -- Hargrave's defensive coordinator last season in Philadelphia. Red and Gold Zone spoke to Hargrave on Thursday about Gannon, the 49ers' hot start and more. The No. 2 overall draft pick in 2018 did not speak to reporters for the second straight day.Coach Brian Daboll had said that Barkley’s workout on Thursday would give him an idea how much progress Barkley had made.“He did good,” Daboll said before Friday’s workout. “He’ll be out there again today. We’ll see where he’s at.”A player who seemingly did not make progress was left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has missed the last two games ...Backers of North Dakota congressional age limits sue over out-of-state petitioner ban

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Supporters of a proposed ballot measure for congressional age limits in North Dakota are suing to be able to use out-of-state petition circulators to gather signatures. The initiative’s push comes amid age-related concerns for federal officeholders. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, froze twice in front of reporters last summer. Joe Biden, who is the oldest U.S. president ever, is seeking reelection at age 80.A political scientist says the measure could be an effort to create a test case for the U.S. Supreme Court to see if the court would be willing to allow states to set congressional age limits on an individual basis.“I assume that’s their goal,” said Mark Jendrysik, professor of political science at the University of North Dakota.Jared Hendrix, who is leading the effort, said “the people deserve better,” citing a recent instance ...Browns’ No. 1 defense faces toughest test of early season in Ravens’ dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson
