The Urinals and Friends Remember D Boon

The Urinals and Friends Remember D Boon The Urinals and Friends Remember D Boon: Late Minutemen frontman D. Boon was born on April 1, 1958. This past Saturday, he would have turned 65 had he not been killed in an automobile accident in 1985 at the horribly young age of 27. His hometown of San Pedro simply won’t allow his life to be forgotten, hence the annual D Day celebration. And what a celebration it was. If the Sardine (and we’ll say it again — there are few better places to watch a punk rock show in all of greater Los Angeles) wasn’t sold out, it was pretty fucking close. The Pedro punks turned out en masse to celebrate their local hero, and they did his memory proud. Both Dondo and Rig provided the early entertainment — the latter were particularly impressive with a snotty and simultaneously psych twist on punk. When a trumpet made an appearance, we were all in.We saw Recess Records mainman Todd Congelliere, who also happens to co-own the Sardine, at this same venue recently with Toys Tha...

Mickey Morabito has been Oakland A’s man with the travel plan for 43 years

Mickey Morabito has been Oakland A’s man with the travel plan for 43 years With another dreary, last-place season in the forecast, the A’s are fortunate to have Mickey Morabito and his dry sense of humor around for the 43rd straight year.Oakland’s quick-thinking, do-everything traveling secretary has long known when it’s time to lighten a mood. When someone bemoans the A’s seemingly hopeless plight, Morabito deftly points out how Oakland can and will distance itself from every other MLB team this season.“We jumped Seattle and the Angels into the No. 1 spot in most air miles traveled for this season. So we are leading Major League Baseball in something,” Morabito wittingly said during a phone conversation while he waited to board a flight to spring training.Mickey Morabito has handled all the A’s travel arrangements since arriving in 1980. Photo by Michael Zagaris Sure, the A’s 51,527 air miles for 2023 puts them safely ahead of the Mariners (49,036) and Giants (46,111), but it obviously still leaves them a long way from where they want to be as a team...

Review: ‘Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe’ lets fans enjoy an overlooked marvel It was easy to miss “Kirby’s Return to Dream Land.” Nintendo released the multiplayer platformer on the Wii in 2011 toward the tail end of the console’s lifespan. Its successor, the Wii U, was on its way to being released, and the “Kirby” project’s standard definition visuals paled in comparison to the high-definition graphics of its peers. That’s a shame because the first “Kirby” console game in over a decade was an imaginative marvel. In recent years, Nintendo has given the pink puffball more love on the Switch, and now, it’s giving fans a chance to play this overlooked adventure.IMPROVED GRAPHICS AND MOREWith “Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe,” the developer, HAL Laboratory, gives the project a fresh coat of paint, updating the visuals for HD screens. The 2-D platformer keeps the essence of the original series as the pink puffball and his friends help out Magolor, a cosmic traveler whose spacesh...
