I-70 closed at Floyd Hill for loose rock

DENVER (KDVR) — Interstate 70 was closed at Floyd Hill Thursday afternoon because of loose rocks after blasting above the highway. No estimated time of reopening was given.The rock is above the highway between U.S. 6 and County Road 65, according to Colorado State Patrol, which posted about the closure at 3:12 p.m. Save this link: Live traffic map from FOX31 U.S. 40 is open. Delays of over 35 minutes were reported.Delays were already expected on this stretch of I-70 because of ongoing construction work for the Floyd Hill expansion project. This month, crews are rock scaling and blasting along the route. DENVER (KDVR) -- On Thursday afternoon, the Denver Police Department was on the scene at Civic Center Plaza where the RTD station was evacuated and closed due to a security issue. The threat was made to 1560 Broadway, which is the building above Civic Center Station. Denver Police called the threat "unspecified." DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment confirmed a Denver resident has died from West Nile virus, bringing the total to 11 deaths this year in Colorado.On Thursday, DDPHE said a 71-year-old Denver resident died after being hospitalized with the virus.“We are thinking of the family during this difficult time,” said Bob McDonald, DDPHE’s executive director and Denver’s Public Health administrator. “This mosquito season has been particularly bad in Colorado, and I urge everyone to take WNV seriously and take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from mosquito bites.” West Nile virus is more of a threat this year than previous years, experts say The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has been tracking West Nile cases in the state since the beginning of mosquito season. The trial for a former Hialeah Police officer accused of kidnapping and beating a homeless man entered its fourth day.Former Hialeah Police Officer Rafael Otano is accused of kidnapping and beating Jose Ortega Gutierrez, along with former Officer Lorenzo Orfila, in December 2022.On Thursday, Hialeah Police Officer Jeffrey Abascal took the stand. A deadly house explosion in Berlin earlier this year was caused by a propane leak, state and local officials announced on Thursday.The explosion happened early on the morning of April 14 on Pleasant Street, killing a 79-year-old woman and sending one other person to a hospital.
