Finals MVP Nikola Jokic carries Nuggets to first championship in franchise history after eliminating Heat Just four months ago, Nikola Jokic wasn’t picked. The playground insult. LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the captains of the All-Star teams, instead chose players like Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant and Donovan Mitchell.Jokic, the two-time reigning MVP at the time, picked himself that night — he just walked off the stage before LeBron made a choice — because he didn’t want to insult the other final starter on the draft board, Lauri Markkanen.Fast forward several weeks and a former NBA player, Kendrick Perkins, implied on ESPN that Jokic was only voted MVP because he’s white. Ridiculous. Perkins also labeled Jokic a stat padder. Doubly ridiculous.Other NBA stars would’ve taken these things personally. LeBron would’ve logged the slights in his memory bank. Kevin Durant would’ve pretended to not care while tweeting about it.But Jokic, the most overlooked and disrespected two-time MVP in history, ignored the noise. And now he’s an N...

Hardly drought busters, but showery spells to increase Tuesday with slow moving low pressure; Canadian fires still burning and smoke may stage a Chicago area comeback in coming days It’s here! El Niño, a warming of the equatorial Pacific waters west of South America and accompanying weakening of the easterly trade winds which blow across that region, has arrived with a range of potential global weather/climate implications, which a study published in the scientific journal Nature suggests may end up producing economic impacts amounting to $3-trillion in 2023.The last full blown El Niño occurred in 2016—a year which produced the highest global average temp on the books. It’s widely believed this year, when El Niño warming is added—the planetary warming already underway with ongoing climate change—that our planet will set a new global warm temp record for 2023. And odds of this becoming a strong El Niño by this coming winter—with ocean temps warming 2.7 degrees F above normal—are placed at 56% by forecasters at the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC).WHY IS THERE SUCH INTEREST IN El Niño?Much is made of El Niños because of the important and...

Session adjourns, Assembly plans to reconvene ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- Lawmakers are still catching up on some much needed rest after a long week. While the Senate did adjourn, the Assembly plans to reconvene. "We don’t have the exact dates, but I hope it’s sooner rather than later," said Assembly Minority Leader, Will Barclay. He said two key issues New Yorkers are dealing with are crime and affordability which he feels went unaddressed this session, "Instead of addressing changes to bail or Raise the Age, they went and passed Clean Slate, which I think is a step in the wrong direction. And as far as affordability, I didn’t really see anything in the final, waning days to provide some relief to New Yorkers, who are overtaxed and over burdened with the cost of living in New York."
