Caught on camera: Meteor lights up San Diego sky

SAN DIEGO -- An out of this world fireball was seen soaring through the San Diego sky on Friday and it was all caught on camera.There were four local sightings reported to the American Meteor Society, a non-profit scientific organization that supports research activities of both amateur and professional astronomers.In the video above, Paul Green from Clairemont sent in home surveillance footage that shows a greenish, blue ball shooting through the night sky. A starry, starry night in San Diego offers a summer salutation Ryan DeGourse, another Clairemont resident, also sent in a video captured from his home that shows a beaming light streaking through the air.Both Green and DeGourse reported that this suspected meteor flash occurred around 9:38 p.m. Around the same time in Mission Hills, Bernard King also captured a burning and speeding ball light up the sky outside of his home. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — At least three people have been found dead, and at least five others are thought to be injured, police in Missouri said while investigating two shootings with multiple victims in the same area of Kansas City early Sunday morning.Officers were called to the intersection of 57th Street and Prospect Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. where they found three shooting victims — two men and one women — dead in a parking lot and in the street, Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Jake Becchina said in an email. BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, Texas (AP) — A Florida man and his 14-year-old stepson died after hiking in extreme heat at Big Bend National Park in West Texas, according to officials. The 31-year-old man had been hiking the Marufo Vega Trail on Friday with his two stepsons, ages 14 and 21.Temperatures at the time were 119 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius), according to the National Park Service. The park, like other parts of Texas, are experiencing extreme heat with daily high temperatures ranging from 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) to 119 degrees Fahrenheit.The 14-year-old became sick during the hike and lost consciousness.His stepfather hiked back to his vehicle while the boy’s older brother tried to carry him back to the trailhead, according to the park service.Authorities were first alerted about the emergency at 6 p.m. CDT on Friday.
