Hudson City Police are asking residents to be on alert for any suspicious activity after a child was nearly kidnapped. Police say they were called out to a stretch of Harry Howard Avenue near M.C. Montgomery Elementary around noon, Thursday. They say they are investigating the attempted abduction of a nine-year-old boy. Big Johnson’s Kitchen is open for business Chief of Police, Mishanda Franklin, says the boy was walking home from school with his older sister when, “a large white van pulled up to him, and in Spanish, said in a low voice ‘get in the back while motioning to the back of his van. The child used an app to translate it.” She says that is when the boy and girl were able to escape to safety by running home.Police released an image of the van they say they are looking for. ST. LOUIS - A man convicted in a shootout with St. Louis police after an attempted robbery last year has been sentenced to prison. A judge has sentenced Pierre Lamont Richmond, 35, to 15 years in prison on charges that stem from the shootout incident on Feb. 13, 2022, in north St. Louis. Investigators say Richmond walked into a Currency Exchange building in the 900 block of North Grand Boulevard when he handed a note to a clerk. Arrest made in deadly Clayton shooting The note reportedly read: “5,000 NOW Good Friend.” The clerk did not comply with this order, then Richmond pulled a gun and demanded that the clerk give him whatever cash was available. The clerk told him she did not have access to cash without approval from her manager, and she went to a back office, called 911 and hid until police arrived.After waiting several minutes, Richmond left the building and noticed police in the parking lot. BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- A man was hit by a SUV Thursday in the 2500 block of Carlyle Avenue at around 5:20 p.m. The crash victim was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.According to police, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound struck the man as he was crossing the street close to Hardee's. The driver stayed at the scene and helped the police with their investigation. The victim was taken to a hospital in St. Louis.There is an investigation into this crash. A Highlands Ranch woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison this week for killing her newborn baby in 2020. The body was found in a grocery store bag underneath a bathroom sink in her home.Peyton M. Green, 22, pleaded guilty to child abuse that knowingly and recklessly caused death on Thursday, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.Green sought medical treatment at the UCHealth Highlands Ranch emergency room on Sept. 26, 2020, for vaginal bleeding. A faithful dog who survived after spending more than 10 weeks by her owner who died of hypothermia while hiking in the Colorado mountains has regained most of the weight she lost during her ordeal and is back on the trails, the family said Thursday.Rich Moore, 71, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, set out with his Jack Russell terrier named Finney to climb Blackhead Peak on Aug. 19, but didn’t return home. A dayslong search between the peak and his vehicle was unsuccessful.A hunter found his body and a very protective Finney in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado on Oct. 30. A Laguna Beach man arrested in the death of 27-year-old Tatum Goodwin used a fire extinguisher to kill her, prosecutors alleged in a new court filing on Friday.The body of Goodwin, who lived in San Clemente, was discovered in an alleyway off the 200 block of Ocean Avenue, behind Carmelita’s restaurant where she worked, on Nov. 12.Dino Rojas-Moreno, 26, of Laguna Hills was arrested on Wednesday and charged with Goodwin’s slaying. He worked as a bartender at Laguna Beach's Royal Hawaiian Fire Grill, according to the Orange County Register. Tatum Goodwin, 27, was found dead in Laguna Beach on Nov. 12, 2023. In Friday’s court filing, the Orange County District Attorney says Rojas-Moreno “personally used a fire extinguisher, a dangerous and deadly weapon” to kill Goodwin while attempting to kidnap her. 81-Year-Old San Jose Man Killed in Auto Collision near Ridgewood ScaleWILLITS, CA (November 17, 2023) – Cynthia Peck was involved in a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred on the northbound lanes of Highway 101, Saturday morning.Dispatchers responded to the scene at approximately 4:00 a.m., just north of Ridgewood Scale on November 11th.Officers say the driver of a 2015 Toyota Tacoma was heading north and suddenly veered into oncoming lanes before striking a nearby dirt embankment. The Toyota then came to rest on the southbound side of the freeway.Shortly after, the driver of an approaching 2016 Subaru Wagon attempted to avoid the stopped vehicle. The driver then struck the driver who had already exited the vehicle.Paramedics later declared the 81-year-old male Toyota driver, of San Jose dead at the scene.
