Mariam Naiem is a cultural researcher and writer. She has commented on various aspects of the war for outlets including Al Jazeera, der Spiegel, the Telegraph and others. “I was rewatching the movie ‘Hunger Games,’ and I couldn’t help but think how it reminds me of my life, our lives as Ukrainians,” a friend wrote to me following yet another night of relentless shelling. On June 6, a catastrophic event unfolded in Ukraine as the dam in Nova Kakhovka was destroyed. But while some media outlets may refer to this as an “incident,” the ramifications of this event extend far beyond that — it represents an ecological disaster that will haunt the region for decades to come, and it is yet another distressing example of war crimes perpetrated by Russia. However, the consequences of this tragedy aren’t limited to environmental devastation and violations of international law. For Ukrainians, it has brought forth a profound sense of helplessness, amplifying our realization of in...Body of missing man from Lynn found in Revere

Alex Cora has said it so often these past few weeks that it’s felt like a recording. If you give the other team more than 27 outs, they’re going to make you pay.But after being the ones paying for defensive slip-ups in recent days, the Red Sox finally got a chance to punish their opponents, and Justin Turner was up for the task. After the New York Yankees twice failed to get out of the bottom of the third on what should have been routine infield grounders, Turner crushed his second home run of the night for a grand slam, blowing the game open in what wound up a 15-5 win for the Red Sox.“It was good offense all the way around,” Turner said. “We were using the whole field, our left-handed hitters just wore out the Monster all night for nine innings and found ways to get on base. (17) hits and 15 runs, that’s a pretty good offensive night.”Turner finished 3 for 5 with two home runs, a double and six RBI, which tied a career-high. His big hit in ...North edges South in Shriners Classic on last-second field goal

WALTHAM — In the 45th annual Shriners Classic at Bentley on Friday night, it looked like, for sure, overtime was coming. But then the North squad, with some late heroics, proved that would not be necessary. After a late drive led by Peabody quarterback Shea Lynch and Andover running back Lincoln Beal, Andover’s Andrew Wetterwald booted a game-winning field goal as time ran out to give the North a thrilling 17-14 comeback win. With the score tied at 14, the North took over on a turnover on downs at its own 40-yard line and just 27 seconds to play. But Lynch, who was the North Offensive MVP, was a calm field general. He completed a 3-yard pass to Beal, then flipped the ball over a defender’s outstretched hand to Beal for a 19-yard catch-and-run on the next play. Beal carried the ball for an 8-yard gain to the South 30, and the North called timeout with six seconds left.Lynch again made things happen with a completion to Beal that the running back ran out of bounds with less th...Patriots CB Jack Jones arrested for trying to bring firearms onto flight at Logan Airport
