$45M settlement reached in case of Randy Cox, man paralyzed in police van

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A joint settlement of $45 million has been reached in the civil case of Richard Cox v. the City of New Haven, according to New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker.Richard “Randy” Cox was paralyzed while he was being transported in the back of a New Haven police transport van last June. Five officers were charged after failing to intervene when it became apparent he was injured. The five officers pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and cruelty. Two of those officers were terminated by the New Haven Police Commission on Wednesday.All parties in the civil case participated in a settlement conference on Friday, and with the judge's assistance, agreed on a settlement of $45 million to resolve all of the claims against the city, officials said. Of the $45 million, the New Haven city insurance covers $30 million of the total settlement. LLANO, Texas (KXAN) — A Llano-based KXAN viewer captured a sweet interaction between their pet bull and a fawn last week.Charlie, a two-and-a-half-year-old Brahman bull, was outside making a new furry friend, as his owners looked on. "Around lunch on [June 6] I heard a fawn while outside and I looked up to see this sweet interaction between 'Charlie' the Bull and this new baby fawn. LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating after a teenager was killed at a landfill Thursday morning.Police identified the teenager as 16-year-old William M. Three suspects are now in custody after an alleged armed robbery developed into a pursuit in El Sereno Sunday morning. According to LAPD, a witness called 911 after observing three male suspects attempt to rob a business in the 4500 block of Valley Boulevard around 9:02 a.m. One suspect was taken into custody at the scene, police said. The two other suspects fled the scene in a gray BMW and LAPD units began a pursuit at 9:08 a.m. During the pursuit, a crash occurred at the intersection of Figueroa and 21st streets, and one of the suspects was arrested. The third suspect managed to get away after the crash but crashed again in the 1900 block of Estrella Avenue. He was arrested after the second crash occurred at 9:26 a.m. A rifle was also thrown out of the BMW during the pursuit, police said. None of the three suspects have been identified.
