OAKLAND — A 31-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday evening in East Oakland, the city’s third homicide of the day, authorities said.His name was not immediately released. None of the killings are believed to be related, police said.The 31-year-old man was shot about 5:42 p.m. Sunday outside in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue after getting into an argument with another man, authorities said. He died at the scene.The suspect fled before police could respond. Investigators did not specify what they believed the argument was about.The killing is the 71st homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and was the third within a 15-hour period Sunday. Last year at this time police had investigated 77 homicides in the city.About 5:43 a.m. Sunday a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 9200 block of E Street. An armed man wearing only a Speedo and fur-lined boots was arrested Saturday at a Petaluma park, police said.The initial call, at 3:51 p.m., said the man was walking naked in Steamer Landing Park, on the Petaluma River. (KRON) -- Hurricane Hilary has been downgraded to a "tropical storm" Sunday morning. However, the storm is playing a factor in many areas in and around Southern California.Although the Hilary is not directly impacting the Bay Area, flights going south are. (KRON) -- Millbrae police have arrested a man who they say is connected to a series of incidents involving women being groped. Jaime Garcia Mogollan of San Bruno is suspected of allegedly groping women in five separate incidents. In one case, a woman accuses Mogollan of groping her on the Spur Trail in Millbrae. According to the woman, Mogollan rode away on a black mountain bike. A few days later, a woman was with her son on Poplar Avenue when Mogollan allegedly came from behind and ran away after she started yelling. (BCN) -- At least one person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a tree along State Route 1 in Santa Cruz early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said. The accident occurred at around 4:38 a.m. Monday along northbound State Route 1 near the intersection with State Route 17. The driver of the vehicle was declared dead on the scene, according to highway patrollers. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Cave Rock, runner-up in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and trained by Bob Baffert, has died from complications of laminitis that developed after surgery in July.The 3-year-old colt who died Friday had not raced since last year’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland.His second-place finish to Forte in the BC Juvenile had placed Cave Rock among the early favorites for this year’s Triple Crown.
