NEW YORK (AP) — Shohei Ohtani doubled to key a two-run third inning, leading the Angels to a 3-1 win over the New York Mets on Friday night in the first game after Los Angeles announced the two-way superstar had torn an elbow ligament.Ohtani, hurt while pitching Wednesday against Cincinnati, finished 1 for 2 with three walks.New York (59-70) dropped below Washington into last place in the NL East — the latest the Mets have been in sole possession of the cellar this late in a season since 2005. The Mets and Yankees are both in last place this late in the season for the first time.A crowd of 38,271 turned out on Japanese Heritage Night at Citi Field and greeted Ohtani with a warm ovation in the first. Ohtani, facing countryman Kodai Senga, made a tipping motion towards the Mets’ dugout and toward Senga before drawing a four-pitch walk. After Nolan Schanuel was hit by a pitch leading off the third, Ohtani ripped a double, clocked at 115.4 mph, that glanced off the glove of right f...CPKC Women’s Open Scores

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Simone Biles did not come back to do a victory lap.The gymnastics star sent a message on Friday night at the U.S. Championships, putting together a thrilling performance that included a show-stopping vault and looking ready for another shot at Olympic glory in Paris next summer. The 26-year-old, wearing a bedazzled purple leotard and with her family adorned in matching T-shirts that read “Still I Rise,” posted an all-around total of 59.300 that put a record eighth national title on Sunday well within reach. As late as this spring, Biles was unsure about how dedicated she was to a return after dealing with a mental block known as “ the twisties ” that led her to remove herself from multiple finals at the 2020 Olympics to protect her own safety. She dazzled in her comeback meet in Chicago this month. The 2016 Olympic champion was even better in front of an SAP Center crowd that roared every time she saluted the judges to start a routine. They only grew louder when ...NASCAR-Xfinity Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola Results

GREELEY, Colo (KDVR) -- A Greeley family is sharing their story in hopes of saving lives and steering kids away from the danger of illicit fentanyl.Brendan Hogan said his 16-year-old daughter, Jaydynn Hogan, died two years ago after taking a sleeping pill she didn't know was laced with fentanyl.“She went to sleep and didn’t wake up,” Brendan said. Kimberly Hogan, Jaydynn’s stepmom, said it was something they never expected. Chief heart surgeon departs suddenly from Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children “We still think she’s coming back and going to walk in that door, but she’s not. So we have to fight for her and be her voice, because hers was taken away from her,” Kimberly said.'Is trying worth dying?'The family started a nonprofit called Jaydynn’s Light with a mission to educate about the dangers of fentanyl and save lives.“We started a nonprofit with the goal of raising awareness for fentanyl, getting relevant drug information back into schools and supporting families that ...2 sea turtles released from Matheson Hammock Park after having fish hooks removed

Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 18:04:26 GMT
The Patriots’ to-do list at the start of the summer was longer than a grocery list coming back from vacation. In order, those to-dos were: elevate Mac Jones. Install a new offense. Restore the trust that fractured last year across the locker room and coaching staff. Refine a defense that will face virtually every elite quarterback in the league this season. Determine whether any of the rookies can start, let alone contribute. All told, over close to 20 practices and three preseason games, most of the boxes on Bill Belichick’s list have been checked. The cupboard is largely full. It’s mission, mostly, accomplished. This summer, Jones sprayed completions all over the field during some of his best practices as a pro. He shredded defenses in Foxboro and Green Bay, where he dominated the Packers for long stretches of back-to-back joint sessions. Teammates already believe he’s “way better.”Jones is calm and confident, a stark departure from the exasperated ...Patriots fall to Titans in preseason finale as Bailey Zappe’s tepid summer continues
Published Mon, 23 Dec 2024 18:04:26 GMT
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick entertained the possibility of a quarterback competition into training camp this summer, but backup quarterback Bailey Zappe never came close to pushing Mac Jones for the job.The lack of a QB battle was as evident as ever Friday night in the Patriots’ third and final preseason game when Zappe started and played the majority of the game while Jones chilled on the sideline with the majority of Patriots starters.Zappe needed the extra work in the Patriots’ 23-7 loss to the Titans in their preseason finale. The 2022 fourth-round pick briefly gave way to third-stringer Trace McSorley midway through the second quarter. The Patriots made a surprise move by re-inserting Zappe into the game to start the third quarter. Undrafted rookie wide receiver/quarterback Malik Cunningham took two snaps under center on the Patriots’ opening drive in the second half before Zappe once again took over at quarterback until late in the fourth quarter.Cunningham p...Mookie Betts sparks Dodgers rally in return to Fenway as Red Sox lose 7-4

Mookie Betts stepped to the plate and tipped his batting helmet to the crowd, acknowledging the raucous ovation he received from the sellout Fenway Park crowd in his first at bat back in nearly four years. Then, over the next three hours, he and his new Los Angeles Dodgers teammates showed the people of Boston what they’ve been missing.Betts went 1 for 4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in his return to Boston, sparking what wound up being a pair of three-run rallies to help the Dodgers charge past the Red Sox for a 7-4 win. He also started at second and, after moving to his more familiar position in right field, caught Connor Wong in no man’s land on the bases to cut short Boston’s best chance to mount a late rally.Freddie Freeman also put on a show, going 4 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI.Since being traded in early 2020, Betts has cast a long shadow over the Red Sox, and fairly or not Alex Verdugo has shouldered much of that weight. One of the play...Latest news
