CBC mainly remains off X, citing low traffic six months after scaling back presence OTTAWA — Six months after the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and Radio-Canada scaled back its use of the social media site X, the public broadcaster says it will mostly remain off the platform formerly known as Twitter because it doesn’t bring in a lot of traffic.Leon Mar, a spokesperson for the public broadcaster, said CBC’s focus is to engage Canadians on other platforms and to continue driving traffic to its websites and streaming services. “The audience and engagement that we get from X is small. Among our social media platforms, X is among the smallest sources of traffic,” he told The Canadian Press when asked why it hasn’t fully returned.Although CBC was unwilling to share its data, Mar pointed to a 2022 Reuters Institute report that shows just 11 per cent of Canadians use X for news. CBC significantly reduced its presence on X in April after the social media company labelled it as “government-funded media.” Similar tags also appeared on ...

We delight. — from “The Last Supper Club”Matthew Batt thought he was going to write a book during his sabbatical from teaching at the University of St. Thomas (he never mentions the name of the college). Fredrik Olofsson’s family found stability in Colorado, now he’s living out a dream with the Avalanche Fredrik Olofsson’s family moved around a lot when he was a child, but one four-year stop in San Jose meant going to Sharks games and skating with other youth hockey players during intermissions.Flash forward to last season, Olofsson’s first with some time spent in the NHL, and his long journey to the top of the sport came full circle: There, sitting across from him in the Dallas Stars locker room, was Joe Pavelski, one of the players he watched so intently as an elementary school kid.“It was nuts,” Olofsson said. “What a guy. He’s such a pro, but he also acts like he’s 16 still sometimes. He can talk to anyone, and wears many hats.”Olofsson’s NHL career is only 33 games old, but he’s already lived an eventful hockey life. His family lived in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Northern California before settling in Colorado the summer before he started eighth grade. His older brother, Gustav, has played 62 NHL games, including three last season with the Seattle Kraken. NFL picks: Former ‘Bama teammates Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa square off in primetime showdown Around the AFCKC Runaway?: The Chiefs are out to a 5-1 start and have won five straight. Second-place team in the division? That’s Las Vegas at 3-3. The Chargers (2-3) are typically viewed as the most likely threat to Patrick Mahomes’ divisional dominance, but Kansas City can put them further in the rearview mirror with a win Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.Cleveland’s QB situation: The Browns logged their biggest win of the year Sunday vs. San Francisco with … P.J. Walker at quarterback. DeShaun Watson’s missed time with a shoulder strain and Walker got the nod over Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Pretty good result, beating the best team in football with a backup QB. Watson’s the guy when healthy, but it’s a situation to watch anyway.Patriots (Lost Their) Way: Man, how bad has the situation become in New England? Bill Belichick’s team is 1-5 and only the Giants have a worse point differential than the Patriots’ minus-80. Mac Jones has been benched multiple times and now the team faces Buffa...

A few days back, he was asked to speak to a group of kids, aged 7-ish to 14-ish, at a local Pop Warner League — impart a little wisdom, talk a little shop. One of the coaches introduced him as the diamond guy. You know? The one who put the bling on all of Shedeur Sanders’ things.Suddenly, all these tiny, skinny left wrists popped up in the air and started flexing, almost in unison. It was as if they were standing in front of an imaginary Arizona State student section at Mountain America Stadium, getting the last word.“They were going crazy, throwing their wrists up,” Mihalakos told The Denver Post earlier this week, chuckling at...
